- The Michell Centre for Social Network Analysis at the University of Manchester has compiled and made available a very insightful collection of datasets on Covert Networks. They are accessible via the Ucinet repository.
- Robert A. Hanneman and Mark Riddle from the University of California Riverside have an online free textbook introducing the basics of formal approaches to social network analysis.
- There are a number of software packages currently available to carry out social network analysis. Gephi is a free open source software with excellent visualisation algorithms. There are packages for the R Project that have been specifically developed to analyse network data (‘sna’, ‘igraph’); similarly for Python. Ucinet is a user-friendly software package that does not require programming skills in its stand-alone version; it is also available as R package. Pajek is a free software optimised for the analysis and visualisation of very large networks.
