Overview

This activity identifies the story of Virgin Galactic, beginning in March 1999 when Richard Branson decided on developing space tourism, through to the first flight with paying passengers.

Activity Description

The link takes you to the Virgin Galactic website.  Click on various pages to gain insight into the following:

  • The story of Virgin Galactic’s development – identify milestones and crises.
  • What it will be like to be a passenger on a Virgin galactic flight into space.
  • The Spaceships that passengers will fly in, as well as the mothership that will take this up to 50,000 feet before it launches.
  • The Spaceport facility from which the spaceships will take off and land.

Consider:

  • What are Virgin Galactic’s order winners?
  • Given that no one has ever done this before, how was the concept developed in order to deliver these OWs?
