As a formal element of art, line can guide our eyes around a composition, express action, or enhance a mood. In this exercise you will create a photograph that shows your understanding of line. You can take a photograph of a line created by nature, a man-made object, an actual line, or an implied line. Your photograph can include many kinds of lines. The only requirement is that your photograph must represent what you see around you. (You cannot take a photograph of an image that already exists). This is an opportunity to share what you see in your daily life.
Discussion Board Activity:
Create a photograph that represents line.
In your discussion board post, include your photograph, explain how it conveys an idea or theme, and address the following statements/questions:
- What kind of line do you see?
- What is/are the direction of your line(s)?
- Is/are your line/s created by actual lines or implied lines?
- What subjective opinions or feelings do you have when viewing this image?
- Does the orientation of your line/s express energy?
Allow time for other students to comment on what they feel your photograph conveys, based on your objective use of line and their subjective understanding of it.
