Mapping Militants is a database which includes information on the evolution of militant organizations in specified conflict theatres and provides representations of changing relationships among groups. It also includes profiles of these organizations, including organization’s history, leadership, resources, size, name changes, ideology, aims, attacks, and tactics.

Global Terrorism Database is the largest database on terrorist events in the world and has been used in numerous quantitative analyses of terrorism (several of which are cited in the chapter). Its covers terrorist attacks around the world in the years 1970-2018. The database is open-source and can be accessed online by anyone. If you plan to use it yourself, it is important to understand its data collection methodology and the limits that it may pose to your study.
