Festenstein, M. and Kenny, M. (2005), Political Ideologies, Oxford University Press. This anthology combines introductions to the main ideologies with the use of extensive extracts from primary sources.
Freeden, M. (2003), Ideology: A Very Short Introduction, Oxford University Press. An indispensable short introduction to the study of ideology
Schumaker, P. (2008) From Ideologies to Public Philosophies, Blackwell. This book surveys the major ideologies of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (though it only deals in passing with the ‘new’ ideologies), and explores the answers they provide to ‘the great issues of politics’ such as community, citizenship, authority and justice.
