Cross-Cultural Interactions: Understanding Global Culture

Blog Roll and Web Links

Reading anthro blogs is a great way to keep up with the latest developments and discoveries in the field, to get a sense of the most important debates and controversies, as well as to find out what anthropologists think about world events. There are literally hundreds of blogs maintained by professional anthropologists from all the subfields (a quite comprehensive list can be found at http://anthropologyreport.com/anthropology-blogs-2014/).

  1. Zero Anthropology (http://zeroanthropology.net/)

Zero Anthropology is a project focused on an anthropology of (and against) empire, investigating aspects of neocolonialism, decolonization, militarization, neoliberalism, and globalization. Regionally focused on the Middle East, this blog tackles issues within and beyond the discipline from a radical and often provocative perspective.
  1. Focaalblog (http://www.focaalblog.com/)

Focaalblog is an extension of Focaal: Journal of Global and Historical Anthropology. The blog “seeks to serve as an intellectually vibrant, socially astute, and genuinely cosmopolitan platform for the discussion of anthropological research.” Its website also includes forums and features on various anthropological topics, as well as an interview series entitled “Conversations on the Left.”
  1. Aidnography (http://aidnography.blogspot.com/)

Aidnography is a blog run by Tobias Denskus, a senior lecturer in communication and development at Malmo University in Sweden, which he describes as “an eclectic mix of reflections on development, communication, anthropology and academia.” His blog also includes book reviews and advice for students.
