1. Resources for Data Analysis
Statnotes: Topics in Multivariate Analysis (http://www.statisticalassociates.com/statnote.htm)
G. David Garson’s online statistics textbook is targeted for graduate students in public administration but accessible to most novice researchers. There are explanations of regression analysis and path analysis as well as many other multivariate statistical techniques. Two excellent features that accompany all discussions of statistics are a list of assumptions and answers to frequently asked questions.
Pitfalls of Data Analysis (or How to Avoid Lies and Damned Lies)
Presented at a conference on applied statistics, this paper outlines sources of bias, methodological errors, and problems of interpretation that often are overlooked in data analysis. The subtitle plays on quotation often attributed to Mark Twain: “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
2. Videos on Multiple Regression
There are multiple videos available online with instructions on how to run and how to interpret output in multiple regression. Below are two links, an introduction to multiple regression and a lesson on interpreting output for multiple regression in SPSS.
