Police Organization and Structure
In this chapter, the student should be able to:
- Understand why police must balance their duties of enforcing the law with respecting the rights of the individuals that they encounter.
- Understand that most police duties are not crime related.
- Describe the four eras of Canadian policing.
- Describe the five primary roles of police officers in Canada.
- Recognize the different policing arrangements across the nation.
- State some of the reasons why police strength differs across Canada.
- Identify the benefits and problems with crime prevention techniques.
