In this chapter, the student should be able to:

- Recognize that politicians have an interest in the CJS and in shaping the crime control agenda.
- Realize that as society changes, so will the many facets of our CJS.
- Describe how the SCC keeps our CJS balanced.
- Identify the different challenges confronting the future of urban and rural justice systems.
- Appreciate the need for evidence-based practices.
