  • Identify the different components of the CJS and how offenders flow through this system.
  • Differentiate between crime control and due process.
  • Understand the critical role the media plays in shaping our ideas of crime and justice.
  • Understand that criminal law is evolving and changes according to legal and political decisions.
  • Understand the important use of discretion in our CJS.
  • Recognize that only a small percentage of individuals charged in a crime ever go to prison.
  • Understand the goals of the CJS.
