Hope in Shadows

Hope in Shadows is a community-based project that originated in the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver, B.C. The project involves a photo contest for people experiencing poverty in Victoria and Vancouver. The photos capture images of community and is then made into a calendar and sold by local venders.

Kiva

This is a non-profit organization based on the idea of micro-lending. The website enables the user to make micro-loan donations which are used to keep people in many parts of the world in a sustainable living situation.

Health Canada

The Health Canada website includes reports and information on the health situation of Canadians. This website is operated by the Government of Canada.

The Corporation

This Canadian documentary features the relationship between corporations, power, and harm. The documentary uses the psychopathy checklist to determine “what kind of person is the corporation?” The film features many examples of crime and harm perpetrated by corporations in the name of profit. 

Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story

This film documents a Vancouver couple whose interest in food consumption and production leads them to live on food which would otherwise be discarded, or wasted, pointing to the contradictions between the extensive production of food and the food insecurity so many still experience.

El Contrato

El Contrato is Min Sook Lee’s documentary on migrant workers, who travel long distances to work in food production under difficult conditions in Ontario.
