An organizational representation of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. The vasopressin and oxytocin are projecting from the posterior pituitary connected with the median eminence. To the lateral of these neurons, hormones such as GaRH, TRH, and CRH are labeled which projects from the anterior pituitary connected with the pituitary stalk. The following are the hormones secreted from the anterior pituitary that are associated with the various organs. GH (Insulin-like growth factor) is associated with the liver. TSH (Thyroxine, Triiodothyronine) is associated with the thyroid. ACTH (Glucocorticoids) is associated with the adrenal cortex of the kidney. FSH (Estrogen, progesterone) and LH (Testosterone) are associated with the ovaries and testis, respectively. Prolactin is associated with the milk production. The following are the hormones secreted from the posterior pituitary: Vasopressin is associated with the kidney water retention. Oxytocin is associated with the uterine contractions and increases milk production.
