Freedom of Information Legislation

A full copy of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 can be found here. You can also read the House of Commons Library’s briefing on the bill before it began its passage through Parliament.

To get a taste of the sorts of things being requested from Parliament under the Freedom of Information Act, have a look at the disclosure logs from the House of Commons and from the House of Lords.  The House of Commons lists its disclosures here and the Lords lists them here. They can be valuable sources of information and statistics. You can see for instance information about:

Catering Prices

Speaker’s Correspondence

Works of Art in the Commons

Renovation Costs for work done in the Palace

Peers’ iPads

Overdue Lords library books

You can view a list of all of the House of Commons Library briefings on freedom of information including legislation, implementation and amendments here.

Information about MPs and expenses

Research the work of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), which was created by the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009. You can also use it to search for information about expense claims from your own MP.
