The Evolution of Global Politics
  1. Research the effects of European colonization of Africa and Asia. For example, you could examine the impact of the 1885 Berlin Conference on the modern situations in Darfur, Somalia, and parts of West Africa. Or, try to determine whether, or the extent to which, the political situations in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Punjab, and in Asia are the result of European colonization.
  2. Look up recent developments in great power relations, such as Russia-US relations or China-US relations. Do you see reasons for optimism or pessimism?
  3. Select either the Korean War or the Vietnam War and read about the chosen conflict. Explain US involvement from two competing perspectives.
