Cross-presentation by dendritic cells
In order for a dendritic cell to activate CD8 T cells, they must be licensed to cross-present antigen by a CD4 T cell. This event occurs by processing of extracellular antigen processed via the MHC class II processing and presentation pathway.
Cross-presentation by dendritic cells
Licensing of a dendritic cell by a CD4 T cell promotes the dendritic cell to undergo cross-presentation, enabling extracellular antigen to be diverted from the phagocytic process through cytosolic diversion, where it can be processed via the MHC class I pathway and presented to CD8 T cells.
