Chapter 7 Web exercises
The World Economic Forum (WEF) produces an annual report on global competitiveness. It uses 12 pillars to rank countries’ competitiveness. Pillar 3 looks at the extent of ICT adoption while pillar 6 focuses on education and skills.
- 1. Outline the measures used by the WEF in pillars 3 and 6 to assess the extent of ICT adoption and the levels of education and skills.
- 2. Why might technology multinationals like Facebook, Google/YouTube, and Amazon be interested in the results in pillar3 and 6 of the WEF report? Hint: address this question from the point of view of companies seeking out markets and production locations for their operations—it would be useful here to refer to Chapter 6 Assessing Country Attractiveness.
- 3.
- a. Using the latest Global Competitiveness Report pillars 3 and 6 results, compare and contrast the attractiveness of Singapore and Brazil to technology MNCs.
- b. Now compare the attractiveness of Brazil and Singapore with Finland.
