How did government policy make it easier for whites to own a home? Answer this question by reading the following modules that can be found here:

  • Where Race Lives
  • A Tale of Two Families
  • The Downward Spiral

 

Web Exercise 2

Find the U.S. Census Bureau’s reports for homeownership, which are called the “US Residential Vacancies and Homeownership Reports.” These are released four times a year. Find the table (often Table 7) that compares the homeownership percentages by race. What would be the cause of any fluctuations? Think about the human lived stories behind the numbers. Find a story of a family buying or losing their home that adds a descriptive dimension to these numbers.
