Chapter 2 Learning Objectives

By the end of the chapter, the student will be able to do the following:

  • Define and give examples of prejudice, discrimination, and microaggressions.
  • Differentiate between the meanings of institutional, systemic, and structural racism.
  • Apply the term “racial ideologies” in meaningful ways to observations and descriptions of racism.
  • Explain racial formation and its strengths and weaknesses as a theory.
  • Name and define settler colonialism and the three pillars of white supremacy.
  • Give examples that show how intersectionality elucidates the dynamics of oppression.
