Part of the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs, I support local criminal justice strategies to achieve safe communities. My goals include providing training and technical assistance supporting efforts to prevent crime, drug abuse, and violence at the national, state, and local levels; reducing the availability of illegal weapons; and assisting states in the design and implementation of effective correctional options for nonviolent offenders.

As the investigative arm of the Department of Justice, I protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats; uphold and enforce criminal laws; and provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies and partners.

I am a component of the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs that collects, analyzes, and publishes information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all government levels.
