Council of Europe
- The website provides a good overview of the role of the Council of Europe, with links to more detailed information: http://www.coe.int/aboutCoe/.

- The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities

- The website of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg contains links to the case law of the court and the basic texts.
- The portal provides a wealth of links organized according to EU activities, institutions, documents and services.

- The Council of the European Union – the EU’s main decision-making body (made up of one government minister from each Member State)– should not be confused with The European Council (which amounts to a regular set of meetings of heads of government of EU Member States, to develop general EU policy).

Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- Adopted in 1948, this Declaration served as a model for the European Convention on Human Rights.
