  1. What are some of the key ways that the structure of an electoral system can shape politics? In your answer, focus particular attention on the impact of electoral systems on party systems.

  1. Which electoral system do you consider most likely to maximize representation, and why? Contrast this system with another that you deem less representative, and explain why this other system is less so. Be sure to specify how you define and characterize the concept of representation.
  2. In the chapter, you read about several different ways to think about representation. For example, some argue that politicians should vote in ways that reflect their constituents’ wishes. Others think that politicians should present themselves and their views to voters during elections but then, once elected, simply make what they think are the best choices. Which do you consider the best approach and why?
