a) Research one or more countries in the world that have self-described religious states. Describe how religion features in these states. What (if anything) do these governments do to protect the interests of religious minorities? To what extent does the religious nature of the state affect the degree of democracy in the country?

b) Research the countries in the world that have governments with a self-proclaimed socialist ideology. What do these governments identify as the basic features of socialism? What reasons or motivations do these governments give for adhering to socialist ideology?
