Chapter 4 Learning Objectives

Students will gain insight into one of the great mysteries in Canadian history: the disappearance of the Stadakohnan and Hochelagan peoples, known to history as the “St Lawrence Iroquoians.”
Colonization created great challenges for Indigenous Peoples, and students will gain an understanding of the way those challenges presented themselves from the very first contact.
The alliances forged between Indigenous Peoples and European colonizers date from the early contact period, and students will gain an awareness of the ways in which both sides attempted to defend their interests through the building of alliances.
