1. Students will be able to define the term “Aboriginal rights” and distinguish these from treaty rights.
  2. Students will understand the context that led to establishment of the Indian Claims Commission of 1970.
  3. Students will understand how oral history is used in court cases.
  4. Students will learn about self-determination and the federal responsibility to consult Indigenous people.
  5. Students will learn about the important role of the court system in protecting Indigenous rights.
  6. Students will understand how the federal government came to recognize Métis Aboriginal rights and rights to self-governance.
  7. Students will learn about Indigenous people and the Canadian justice system.
