Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is Australia's most famous built landmark. It is the world's largest steel-arched bridge , but it is not the longest.

The bridge was completed in 1932. It took 1400 men and 8 years to build it. It was very unsafe because the builders had no safety helmets. 16 men died by falling down in to the water.

The bridge is about 1 kilometre long. It is the widest long-span bridge in the world, measuring 49 metres and it is 132 metres above sea level. The Bradfield Highway runs through the bridge. The bridge has 8 lanes of road traffic, a footpath and a bike lane. Also there is a footbridge where people can walk over the bridge and see the view of the city.

On March 18th 2007, lots and lots of people came and celebrated the bridge's 75th anniversary. About 200 000 people walked across the bridge. In 2032, the bridge will be 100 years old and I will be 20.
