The Qualia Problem Essay Questions

  1. Explain what qualia are, and give some examples. What theory does Jackson think that qualia are a problem for?
  2. What story does Jackson tell about the researcher Mary? Why does he think this story shows that physicalism is false?
  3. Write a similar story to the Fred or Mary case, using a sense other than sight. Try to show the same conclusion, that physicalism is not the whole story.
