Necessary and Suf ficient Conditions
- How would you explain the difference between necessary and sufficient conditions to someone who was confusing them?
- Imagine that your professor says, “Attendance every day is necessary to get an A.” You attend the class every day, but you don’t get an A. Has your professor been dishonest? Why or why not?
- Imagine that your professor says, “A perfect score on every assignment is sufficient to get an A in this class.” A student objects, “It’s not fair to grade so harshly. You shouldn’t demand perfection just to get an A.” Do you think the professor’s statement is fair? Why or why not?
