style of politics that stresses the ability of parties to accommodate diverse interests, a feat that requires flexibility in policy positions and ideological stance. Brokerage politics is often characterized as non-ideological, which is somewhat misleading because the claim of brokerage-style parties to be non-ideological simply means that they represent the dominant ideology accepted uncritically by most members of society. The Liberal and Conservative parties have been the main practitioners of brokerage politics on Canada's national stage, the Liberal Party being the more successful of the two over the last century
