Researching Documents and Texts

After reading this chapter, you should be able to:

  • identify data collection approaches used for document and textual research in political science, and describe the commonalities amongst these approaches;
  • explain how document analysis informs political science research;
  • identify what types of questions are most appropriate for textual analysis, and explain the differences between content and discourse analysis; and
  • critically assess research that uses documents and textual data.
