A map of Europe shows Protestant Reformation circa 1580. The reformed faith was dominant in Scotland, England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Prussia and Courland in northeastern Europe, and Pomerania, Mecklenburg, Brandenburg, and Saxony in present-day Germany. The reformed faith was growing in southwestern France, parts of present-day northern Germany, and eastern Europe, including Hungary and Poland-Lithuania. Considerable local reformed faith was in northern England, present-day northern Germany, present-day Austria, and parts of east-central Europe. Some penetration of reform was experienced by the Spanish Netherlands in northern Europe, and in Bohemia and Moravia in east-central Europe. Portugal, Spain, Italy, Ireland, and central and eastern France remained predominantly Catholic. The Anabaptists and Mennonites were in Moravia, Saxony, and central Europe.
