In Chapter 3 we extensively cover the chemistry of the ozone layer and the chemical processes which have created the annual ozone thinning phenomena over the years. This paper discusses the recent signs that the Antarctic ozone ‘hole’ is finally starting to ‘heal’. Evidence is provided in the form of: i) September increases in ozone since 2000, ii) changes in the vertical profile of ozone concentrations, and iii) decrease in the size or extent of the ‘hole’ over the Antarctic region. Further chemical and physical feedback processes are also discussed.
