Recovering, not Condemned: Students and Mental Health

This chapter raises awareness about the state of mental health problems among students, in the hope of encouraging and expanding discussions and practical solutions to this all-important topic.

To facilitate discussions, the chapter explores the mental health needs and experiences of students, highlighting their service needs, and sharing their recovery stories. The chapter also proposes some practical solutions to supporting student mental health and wellbeing, a critical one being the establishment of services that foster connectedness and dialogue between students, faculty, and administrators on campuses.

It is clear that students, like the general population, experience a wide array of mental illnesses that require public and policy attention, as well as appropriate and adequate services and supports.
