European Convention on Human Rights

- The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is the most advanced international court of human rights.
- The ECtHR uses a number of interpretative principles to develop and expand protection of the ECHR.
- Rights are classified as absolute, limited, or qualified.
- When adjudicating on qualified rights the ECtHR uses the doctrines of proportionality and margin of appreciation.
