General Information on Careers in Statistics
- American Statistical Association, Career Centre
While the ASA is American, its career center contains a great deal of information applicable to an international (and, specifically, a Canadian) audience. This includes details on accreditation, professional development programs, fellowships and grants, industry-based salaries, and ethical guidelines for statisticians. The site also includes a job board for statistical job openings. In addition, the ASA publishes a magazine for members, AmStatNews, which occasionally prints profiles of ASA members (e.g., James J. Cochran), outlining what statisticians do and the steps they took to get where they are today. - Simply Statistics: Interviews
“Simply Statistics” is a blog written by three biostatistics professors. The interviews available on this website are with up-and-coming statisticians regarding their career paths and current work. They also include advice for students trying to get started on a career in statistics. - The World of Statistics
The International Year of Statistics was a year-long event created to increase public awareness of the power and impact of statistics on all aspects of society, nurture statistics as a profession, and promote creativity and development in the field of statistics. To that end, the World of Statistics website (successor to the highly popular International Year of Statistics—Statistics2013 website) includes a variety of useful resources. In particular, the section titled “Statistics as a Career” provides a guide on how to become a statistician, lists famous statisticians, and includes videos on careers in statistics. - Simply Statistics Interviews
