Acheulean handaxe
Symmetrical stone tool of the later Early Paleolithic. The bifacially flaked, teardrop-shaped all-purpose handaxe dates to as much as 1.76 million years ago in Africa. There and after about 1.0 million years ago in Europe, the handaxe was manufactured by members of the species Homo erectus.
