Council of Europe

• The website provides a good overview of the role of the Council of Europe, with links to more detailed information: http://www.coe.int/aboutCoe/.
• There are links to the institutions of the Council of Europe:
• The Committee of Ministers (The Council’s decision-making body)
• The Parliamentary Assembly
• The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities

• European Convention on Human Rights (with links to the protocols in the top right-hand corner)
• European Social Charter
• The website of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg contains links to the case law of the court and the basic texts.

European Union

• The portal provides a wealth of links organized according to EU activities, institutions, documents and services.
• There are links to various institutions of the EU:
• The European Parliament
• The European Commission
• The Council of the European Union – the EU’s main decision-making body (made up of one government minister from each Member State)–  should not be confused with The European Council (which amounts to a regular set of meetings of heads of government of EU Member States, to develop general EU policy).
• The website of the Court of Justice of the European Communities in Luxembourg contains numerical access to the case law, as well as a text-based search engine for cases after 1997.
• EUR-LEX provides links to all EU law (treaties, regulations, decisions etc.) and numerical access to ECJ case law.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

• Adopted in 1948, this Declaration served as a model for the European Convention on Human Rights.
