Instructions

In this experiment, you will be shown a set of digits of one of three sizes and be given some time to commit them to short-term memory. There will then be a delay and you will be shown a probe item and be asked whether the probe item was in the series.

  1. At the beginning of each trial, you will see a fixation ‘+’ which you should focus on. When you are ready to begin a trial, press the space bar.
  2. You will then be shown 1, 3, or 5 digits. Try to commit the digits to memory. After a delay you will be asked to indicate as quickly and accurately as possible whether a probe item was present or absent in the series you just saw. If the item was present, press the ‘D’ key. If the item was absent, press the ‘K’ key.
  3. You will be given feedback as to whether your response was correct or incorrect, and then the fixation cross for the next trial will be shown.

You will complete 10 practice trials and 48 experimental trials. At the end, you will be shown your response times on experimental trials where you answered correctly. Press "Next" to begin.
