Debriefing

The typical results show the percentage of times a typical subject completes the target with the word from the learning portion as a function of a) the cue type at learning and b) the cue type at test time. Encoding specificity is found when the percentage reported is higher in the learning cue A/test cue A and learning cue B/test cue B conditions than in the other conditions. If the context was not important to memory recall, then there would be no difference in the frequency of the report of a word when the cues are the same at learning and testing, and when the cues are different.
