In this activity, you learned about top-down processing of colour information, where expectations influence colour perception. Contextual cues can lead to top-down processing of colour – the interpretation of the colour of different objects can be based on the objects' surroundings instead of the wavelength of light the object is reflecting. The type of lighting and knowledge of how lighting works can make us perceive different colours, and those colours can differ from person to person, as you saw with the dress in this activity.
