Daylight Effects
When objects are in daylight, they reflect more orange light. Research suggests that in these conditions people may use top-down processing to reduce orange elements of an image. In the case of the dress, this would make the dress appear blue and black.
Dim Light Effects
In darker settings, objects can take on blue hues. In these conditions, people tend to ignore blue light, which, in the case of the dress, will make it appear more white and gold.
