Across America, the 1961 freedom rides were as follows. On May fourth was from Richmond to Petersburg to Lynchburg to Greensboro to Charlotte to Rock Hill to Sumter to Augusta to Atlanta to Birmingham. On May 17 was from Nashville to Birmingham to Montgomery to Jackson. On June 13 was from Raleigh to Sumter to Savannah to Jacksonville to Tallahassee. Another June 13 route was from Raleigh to Sumter to Savannah to Jacksonville to Ocala to Tampa to Saint Petersburg. On November 31 was from New Orleans to Jackson. On November 29 and December 1 was from Baton Rouge to McComb. On August 2 was from Charlottesville to Roanoke to Knoxville to Chattanooga to Memphis to Little rock. Violence happened in Rock Hill, Anniston, Birmingham, Montgomery, Jackson, and McComb. Three hundred and six were jailed in Jackson; four jailed in Little Rock; 10 jailed in Tallahassee; 3 jailed in Ocala; 1 jailed in Charlotte. Two were arrested and released in Winnsboro. Nine were arrested and released in Birmingham.
